Aprajita is currently studying Law in NLSIU , Bangalore which is the best college  for Law in India.

In this interview she discusses her examination strategies, Mock test and some important books, that the students can follow who are preparing for CLAT examination .

Here are the excerpts from the Interview:

Harshita :Congratulations Aprajita on achieving this feat, During the preparation, did CLAT AIR 1 ever came across your mind?

Aprajita: Thank you so much! During preparations, I was focused on studying hard and just getting into any top five NLUs so, getting an all India rank one was out of the blues :p

Harshita :There are different fields after 12th, what motivated you to make a career in law?

Aprajita :Actually, as a kid, I wanted to pursue a career as an automobile engineer or astrophysics but due to certain turns of event, I decided to pursue law. It might sound cliché but the main reason was to help people out and law seemed to be a good fit. I felt that studying law would give me the necessary background and degree to reach out to people who needed help.

Harshita :Was this your first attempt at CLAT? When did you start preparing for the law entrance exams and what strategies you used in particular for your preparation?

Aprajita :Yes, this was my first attempt. I began my CLAT preparations when I was in Class 11th, in May 2018. The syllabus that we have for CLAT is quite vast and I don’t think it is possible to cover everything and in our case, the pattern got changed at the very last moment so that was another fallback. It might seem to be too many things to do and too little time but putting in consistent effort over an average amount of time ensures that you simply have enough time to work on your strengths and weaknesses. It is not about completing everything you plan or completing every other book you see your friends studying but it is about being consistent with what you are doing. Do what you need to do, make a plan to cover your syllabus smartly and to stick to what you’ve decided. Go through the past year papers, take mocks, read newspapers and get a good hold on the subjects. Identify your weaknesses and strengths by taking mocks regularly and work on every single one of your weaknesses and make it your strength. However, don’t forget to revise the topics you consider your strengths, so as not to lose practice. Above all, keep in mind to try to do your best.

Harshita :Choosing the right Books and Preparation material have always been a concern for many students preparing for CLAT.  So according to you which are some of the best books for preparation that you recommend for CLAT 2021 for each of the 5 sections and overall preparation?

Aprajita :I referred to the materials that my coaching provided me with apart from that for the quantitative technique you can refer to 18 days wonder and RS Aggarwal, for General knowledge and current affairs – Read NEWSPAPERS daily especially the editorials, Dhristi IAS and GK Today would also suffice and for logical reasoning you can solve GMAT papers. Above all try giving as many mocks as possible, be it topic mocks or sectional mocks or main mocks, they all are very important for your preparations.

Harshita :What is the ideal time to start taking mock Tests & What role do mock tests play in CLAT Preparation? What were your strategies in particular towards mock tests?

Aprajita :The mocks are the most important part of your CLAT preparations. Take the mocks very seriously and after taking mocks, spend one-two hours analysing them (very important). Do a section-wise analysis and make sure none of your weaknesses goes unnoticed. Focus on your sectional scores and work on the sections where you tend to lose marks. Check each and every question of the mock where you made a mistake and why and accordingly work on the strategy you need to apply in the next mock. Basically, experiment with it. After every mock, I had this notebook where I use to write down the topics in which I scored low and accordingly I would work on those topics. The is to aim to improve your scores with each and every mock, know your strengths and weaknesses. The current pattern requires more and more practice so, solve as many mocks you can. Keep in mind that you don’t go attempting one lengthy section after the other, it will bore you and most importantly stress you out and therefore you might lose interest in going forward with next set of questions. I would start with General knowledge then legal followed by quantitate technique then reading comprehension and lastly logical reasoning. Time also becomes an important factor here since the paper could be quite lengthy. Ideally one should devote (according to me) 40 – 45 mins in legal, 10- 15 mins in quant., 10 mins in GK, 30-35 mins in reading comprehension and 35- 40 mins in logical reasoning. Keep track of time while taking mocks and you are good to go.

Harshita :What advice would you like to give the future CLAT aspirants & share with us the strategies you used to stay motivated in your exam days.

Aprajita :There might be times when your mock scores are not up to your expectations, find a genuine reason behind it and work on it so that you don’t repeat your mistakes. Just remain devoted, dedicated and determined because these three Ds will help you get into your dream college. In the process, don’t beat yourself up or mentally torture yourself also don’t put your life on hold, take some time out to what you like, play games, watch movies, listen to songs, talk about the problems you are facing with your family and friends and *chill*.
