The NID DAT 2023 or National Institute of Design Aptitude Test 2023 will be conducted by the National Institute of Design for admissions in the all the courses offered at all the campuses of NID or National Institute of Design. The NID DAT Prelims 2023 is expected to be conducted in the 2nd week of March 2023 while the Mains is expected to be conducted tentatively around the 4th week of May 2023. Here we are only covering the B. Des. or Bachelor of Design Programme and not the other programs offered at the NID campuses through the NID DAT.

The B. Des or Bachelor of Design Programme is offered at the following NID Campuses:

The NID DAT 2023 will be conducted in the following two stages:

  • Stage 1: Design Aptitude Test (DAT) Prelims and
  • Stage 2: Design Aptitude Test (DAT) Mains

The DAT Prelims is a 3 hours duration pen paper based test of 100 marks and only the candidates who qualify the DAT Prelims are eligible to give the DAT Mains Examination.

There were some crucial changes in the year 2020 in NID DAT which were as follows:

Due to the ongoing covid-19 pandemic candidates were not called to NID’s campuses for the DAT Mains, instead the DAT Mains was conducted in online format in which details for uploading the creative work samples and Statement of Purpose/Thematic Reflections and downloading of Admit Card was intimated to the candidates on their registered email IDs, prior to the DAT Mains.

Consequently, the revised weightage of the DAT Prelims and Mains for the admissions in NID was revised as follows:

The NID DAT Application Form 2023 can be filled online by following these steps:

  • Step 1: Signup/Registration
  1. All the candidates are required to register/sign up online before proceeding to fill the application form. This has to be done only at http://admissions.nid.edu  
  2. Please provide a valid email address and an active mobile number while registering, since these contacts will be used for all future communication with the candidate.
  3. After registration, login credentials will be sent via an email to the registered email address (do remember to check your spam or junk folders in case you do not find the email in your inbox). In case, wrong email address and/or mobile number has been provided during signup, candidates are required to register afresh with the correct details.
  4. Candidates are advised not to delete the email sent to you, as this will be useful for future reference.
  5. Log in to your account using login credentials to proceed further.
  • Step 2: Fill the Online Application Form:
  1. Log in and proceed to Application Form.
  2. Fill in all the required details.
  3. After filling all details, click ‘Save & Proceed’ to go to the next section ‘Upload Document’.
  4. Click ‘Save & Exit’ to complete the form at a later time or date.

 

  • Step 3: Uploading your Documents and signature
  1. Upload a scanned recent passport-size photograph as per the instructions. All photographs must be in JPG/JPEG format and not exceeding 100 KB in size. It must be a colored photograph taken at a professional studio. Photographs with self-composed portraits will not be accepted.
  2. Candidates must upload their scanned signature as per the instructions. All signature files must be in JPG/JPEG format and not exceeding 100 KB in size. Candidates should have your signature digitally photographed or scanned and cropped to the required size. 
  3. Candidates applying under the GEN-EWS category are required to upload their valid EWS Certificate issued by a competent authority. The date of issue of EWS certificate must be 01 April 2020 or later. The certificate must be in JPG/JPEG format and not exceed 150 KB in size.
  4. Candidates applying under the OBC-NCL category are required to upload their valid OBC-NCL Certificate issued by a competent authority. The date of issue of OBC-NCL certificate must be 01 April 2020 or later. The certificate must be in JPG/JPEG format and not exceed 150 KB in size.
  5. Candidates applying under the SC and ST categories are required to upload their valid Caste Certificate issued by a competent authority. The certificate must be in JPG/JPEG format and not exceeding150 KB in size.
  6. Candidates applying under the Persons with Disability (PwD) category are required to upload their valid Disability Certificate issued by a competent medical authority as per the guidelines of the Government of India. The certificate must be in JPG/JPEG format and not exceeding 150 KB in size.
  7. Candidates applying under the Overseas category are required to upload the first and last page of their valid passport, clearly showing all of their personal information. The document must be in JPG/JPEG format and not exceeding150 KB in size.
  8. All of these scanned documents must be in JPG/JPEG format.
  9. Once you are done with uploading all the necessary documents, click ‘Save and Exit’ to complete the form (at a later time or date). 
  10. Click ‘Save & Proceed’ to go to the next section to pay Application Fees. Your Application Form will be accepted only after successful payment of the application fees.
  • Step 4: Pay Application Fee and Print
  1. The application fees are applicable to candidates of all institutes- NID Ahmedabad, NID Andhra Pradesh, NID Haryana, NID Madhya Pradesh & NID Assam irrespective of gender.
  2. Application fee is NEITHER refundable NOR transferable.
  3. The Application fees paid online (by Debit/Credit Card) DOES NOT INCLUDE any bank/ transaction charges, and the same, as applicable, will have to be borne by the candidate.
  4. Candidate will be asked to verify their details, after which they can proceed to make the payment.
  5. Select method of payment— (a) ONLINE (via Debit/Credit Card) or (b) OFFLINE only by Demand Draft. Enter the required details as specified.
  6. For candidates paying ONLINE: They will be directed to the payment gateway. After completing the payment process, they will be redirected to the ‘Print’ section where you can save your form as a PDF file and print it. They are NOT required to send the print-out of their application form if they are paying online via Debit/Credit Card.
  7. For Candidates paying OFFLINE: Prepare a Demand Draft of the amount in favour of ‘All India Management Association’ payable at New Delhi. Fill in the details of the Demand Draft online to complete the submission process. Save the Application Form as a PDF File and print it.
  8. To complete the application process, you must send the Demand Draft and a printout of your application form in a single envelope to the following address (via Speed Post/Courier only), so as to reach before the prescribed date and time: The Project Manager–CMS All India Management Association Management House, 15, Link Road Lajpat Nagar Part 3, New Delhi 110024.
  9. Please note that candidates who have made online payment via Debit/Credit Card are NOT required to send the print-out of your application form.

Before filling the NID DAT Application Form 2023 candidates must familiarize themselves with the NID DAT Eligibility Criteria 2023, intake capacity, test centers, and various other important details and information about NID DAT 2023.

Eligibility

NID DAT Eligibility Criteria 2022: The NID DAT Eligibility Criteria 2022 is necessary for students to read before doing registration for the examination.

The Eligibility Criteria is important for any examination because even if a candidate does not fulfill a single criterion of the eligibility criteria declared for the examination then the candidate is not allowed to appear for the examination or even after appearing for the examination and clearing the same the admission through the examination stands canceled or void.

 

The NID DAT Eligibility Criteria 2022 for B. Des Programmes in detail are as follows: 

Age Limit

  • For Indian Nationals in General Category and General EWS Category:  Only those candidates born on or after 1 July 2001 are eligible to apply for admission.
  • For OBC-NCL, SC, and ST:  Only those candidates born on or after 1 July 1998 are eligible to apply for admission.
  • For PwD, only those candidates born on or after 1 July 1996 are eligible to apply for admission.
  • For Foreign Nationals in Overseas (Supernumerary) Category:  Only those candidates born on or after 1 July 2001 are eligible to apply for admission.

Qualification

Candidates who have passed or will appear for higher secondary (10+2) qualifying examinations in the academic year 2021-22 in any stream (Science, Arts, Commerce, Humanities, etc.) from any recognized board of education such as CBSE, IB, ICSE, or their equivalent.

 

Qualifying Exams List:

  • Final examination of the 10+2 system under a central or state board recognized by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU).
  • Intermediate or two-year pre-university examination under a board or university recognized by the Association of Indian Universities.
  • Final examination of the two-year course of the Joint Services Wing of the National Defence Academy.
  • Senior secondary school examination under the National Institute of Open Schooling, with a minimum of five subjects.
  • Any public school, board or university examination completed in India or in any foreign country is recognized as equivalent to the 10+2 system by the Association of Indian Universities.
  • H.S.C. vocational examination.
  • General Certificate Education (GCE) examination at the Advanced (A) level taken in London, Cambridge, or Sri Lanka.
  • AICTE approved a three-year Full-time Diploma after Class X offered by the Board of Technical Education of any state in India or Union Territories as mentioned on http://www.facilities.aicte-india.org.
  • Candidates who have completed final examinations for class XII (or equivalent) outside India or from a board not specified above should produce an equivalence certificate from the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) confirming that the examination they have passed is equivalent to the Class XII examination conducted in India. The certificate is required to be submitted at the time of document verification.
  • The NID DAT 2022 or National Institute of Design Aptitude Test 2022 will be conducted by the National Institute of Design for admissions in all the courses offered at all the campuses of NID or the National Institute of Design. The NID DAT Prelims 2022 is expected to be conducted in the 2nd week of March 2022 while the Mains is expected to be conducted tentatively around the 4th week of May 2022.

Admit Card For DAT Prelims:  The NID DAT Admit Card 2023 will be available for the DAT prelims on the official website of NID DAT 2023: www.admissions.nid.edu.

The DAT Prelims Admit Card will be available for download tentatively before 3 or 4 weeks of the DAT Prelims Examination.

The NID DAT Admit Card 2023 for DAT Prelims can be downloaded from the above website by the candidates by logging into his/her account using the Login credentials made while filling the NID DAT Application Form 2023.

The Admit Card is an important document and must be carefully kept by the candidates as it is necessary to produce at the Exam centre while appearing for the Entrance Examination and without the same the Candidate is not allowed to enter the exam hall to appear for the entrance examination.

The Admit Card usually contains the details of the Exam Centre, Personal Details of the Candidate like Registration Number and Date of Birth and other important information including the Instructions to be followed by the candidate at the exam centre before, after and during the Entrance Examination.

 

Admit Card for DAT Mains: Based on the scores obtained in the DAT Prelims, eligible candidates will be shortlisted for the DAT Mains. Admit Cards for shortlisted candidates will be available for download only on the official NID admissions website (http://admissions.nid.edu).

 

DAT Mains will be conducted in online format in which details for uploading the creative work samples and Statement of Purpose/Thematic Reflections and downloading of Admit Card will be intimated to the candidates on their registered email IDs, prior to the DAT Mains.

NID DAT Result 2023: The NID DAT Result 2023 will be declared by the NID online on the NID DAT Official Website: www.admissions.nid.edu .

The NID DAT Result 2023 will be declared once after the NID DAT 2023 Prelims and the Final Result will be declared after the DAT Mains Result.

The NID DAT Result 2023 will be declared as follows:

  • DAT Prelims Result 2023:
  1. Based on the scores obtained in the DAT Prelims, separate merit lists shall be prepared for each category applied for by the candidate. Results for admission to NID for the Academic Year 2023-23 for the B. Des. (including overseas candidates) programmes will be declared only on the official admissions website (http://admissions.nid.edu) The candidates’ scores will also be available for viewing at this time.
  2. Separate result score cards (digital or hard copy) will NOT be provided to the candidates.
  3. In case the total marks scored by two or more candidates are the same, the following tie-break policy will be used for awarding ranks:
    1. Higher rank will be assigned to the candidate who has obtained higher marks in Part B of the DAT - Prelims. 
    2. If this does not break the tie, higher rank will be assigned to the candidate who has obtained higher marks in Part A of the DAT - Prelims.
    3. If this still does not break the tie, then both the candidates will be assigned the same rank.
  4. Rechecking of DAT Prelims Exam:
    1. Requests for rechecking the answer booklet of the DAT Prelims - can be submitted ONLINE ONLY on the official website http://admissions.nid.edu  
    2. Rechecking will be restricted to– (i) Whether all the answers have been marked. (ii) Whether there has been any mistake in the total calculation of marks for each question in Part II of answer booklet and transferring the marks correctly onto the cover page of the answer booklet.
    3. No other re-evaluation of the answer script or other work done by the candidate as a part of the examination will be carried out.
    4. No candidate, person or organization shall be entitled to claim re-evaluation or disclosure or inspection of the answer scripts or copies of it and other documents as these are treated as most confidential by the NID Admission Cell.
    5. On rechecking the answer booklet, if it is found that there is an error, the marks will be revised accordingly.
    6. The communication regarding the revision of marks, if any, shall be sent to the candidate’s registered email ONLY.
    7. The Institute will not be responsible for any loss or damage or any inconvenience caused to the candidate consequent to the revision of marks and no claims in this regard shall be entertained. The revised score after rechecking will be considered final.
    8. Any rechecking requests submitted without a scanned copy of the Admit Card signed by the invigilator with the seal of the test centre will not be processed. Rechecking request will not be accepted over email and have to be submitted by the candidate online only at the official website of NID.
    9. The details about “How to submit the rechecking request” will be available on the official website of admissions at a later stage. 
    10. The fees for rechecking of DAT Prelims paper is Rs.2000/- each.

Based on the Merit list of DAT Prelims, eligible candidates will get to appear for DAT Mains. The number of candidates shortlisted will be no less than three times in each category applied for by the candidate.

  • Final Merit List: The final common merit lists for the B. Des. programmes will be generated category wise (Open, GEN-EWS, OBC-NCL, SC, ST, and PwD), based on the sum total of the weighted scores obtained by the candidate, viz. the DAT Prelims and DAT Mains.

Separate merit list will be prepared for Overseas candidates for B.Des. programme. Common merit list will be generated based on the percentile score.

Results for admission to NID for the academic year 2023-23 for B.Des. (including Overseas candidates) will be declared only on the official admissions website (http://admissions.nid.edu)

The candidates’ scores and ranks will be available for viewing on the website and candidates will have to log in to the site to view their final results.

Separate result scorecards (digital or hard copy) will not be sent/provided to the candidates.

In case the total marks scored by two or more candidates are the same, the following tie-break policy will be used for awarding ranks:

  1. Higher rank will be assigned to the candidate who has obtained higher marks in DAT Mains;
  2. If this does not break the tie, higher rank will be assigned to the candidate who has obtained higher marks in DAT Prelims;
  3. If this does not break the tie, higher rank will be assigned to the candidate who has obtained higher marks in DAT Prelims Test Part II;
  4. If this does not break the tie, higher rank will be assigned to the candidate who has obtained higher total marks in questions No. 25,26 & 27 of DAT Prelims Test Part II;
  5. If this does not break the tie, higher rank will be assigned to the candidate who has obtained higher marks in Question No.25 of DAT Prelims Test Part II;
  6. If this does not break the tie, higher rank will be assigned to the candidate who has obtained higher marks in Question No. 26 of DAT Prelims Test Part II.

Admission Counselling

NID DAT Counselling Procedure 2023:  The NID DAT Counselling Procedure 2023 or the NID DAT Seat Allotment 2023 is done on the basis of the Final Merit list prepared on the basis of DAT Prelims and DAT Mains 2023.

The expected weightage of the DAT Prelims and Mains for the admissions in NID in the Academic year 2023-23 is as follows (Based upon the revised weightage in the year 2023):

The Seat Allotment in the various B. Des. courses in the participating 5 NID Campuses namely Ahmedabad, Andhra Pradesh, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, and Assam will be done as per the Final Merit List prepared on the basis of the above-mentioned weightage.

Final Seat Allotment: The procedure of allotment of seats for the B. Des. programme will be conducted in Ahmedabad. Each candidate will be required to remain present in a person with the requisite documents as per the schedule (which will be announced at a later date). Failing to report with the requisite documents as per the schedule will lead to forfeiting the candidate’s seat and their seat will be allotted to the next eligible candidate in the order of merit in the respective category.

After the NID DAT Counselling Procedure 2023 is completed and the final seat allotment is done for each institute the classes for the first year will start at the respective campuses.
